Indian Companies, Saudi Government Eye Mining Investments in Peru

The Peruvian government has attracted international interest to its mining sector following key meetings with Saudi Arabian and Indian officials aimed at boosting cooperation and investments in critical minerals.

On September 18, the ministers of mines from Peru and Saudi Arabia held a meeting aimed at advancing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in technical mining operations and metallurgy.

Saudi Arabia will have a session at PERUMIN 37 to showcase its investment interests and cooperation opportunities for projects in Peru.

"This would be key for Peru and Saudi Arabia, because the critical minerals present in our concentrates can be optimized through the development of the metallurgical industry," mentioned Peru's minister of mines, Jorge Montero.

In parallel to the Saudi engagement, India's ambassador to Peru also met with mining officials from the country's ministry to promote investing opportunity meetings during PERUMIN 37 with Indian companies interested in investing in copper, lithium and gold projects in the South American country.

Among the enterprises eyeing Peru's portfolio are Hindustan Copper Limited, Indio Asia Copper Ltd, Manganese Ore Ltd, Bokaro Steel Ltd, Kiri Industries Ltd, Jindal Steel and Power, Coal India Ltd, and Gas Authority of India Ltd.

In recent months, the Indian government released its vision document for the copper sector, which advised creating investment opportunities for Indian mining companies in South America to increase the Asian giant's role in the sector and further promote its imports of critical minerals.

Peru currently has a mining portfolio of 67 projects worth investments of US$64 billion. Over 70% of those projects are for copper developments, followed by gold with 12%. Peru is in the top three of the largest copper producers and among the top 10 biggest gold suppliers.

pe Serving as a focal point for these international connections, PERUMIN 37 will take place in Arequipa from September 22 to 26 and is expected to engage dozens of companies from the mining sector, nine foreign delegations, and over 65,000 participants throughout the week.
