International Paper Company (NYSE:IP) (Stamford, Connecticut) plans to take maintenance downtime during the second quarter of the year at five of its U.S. pulp, paper and paperboard mills. IP will perform inspections, major maintenance repairs and overhauls at mills located in Pineville, Louisiana; Selma, Alabama; Redwood, Mississippi; Quinnessec, Michigan; Domino, Texas and Jay, Maine. During the shutdown periods, the presence of construction contractors may increase to several hundred workers at some sites. Contractor and vendor selections are currently underway.
The companys Riverdale mill, located in Selma has scheduled April 17th through the April 26th for extensive maintenance repairs. Operations at the mill began in 1966, and today, two paper machines produce over 1,600 tons per day of uncoated free-sheet.
In Mississippi, the Vicksburg mill is scheduled to go down at the end of April and expected to resume full production two weeks later. The Vicksburg mill started up in 1930 and is a single machine mill that produces approximately 1,600 tons per day of unbleached kraft linerboard.
