JTPCC wins contract for Jiarun Aluminum Smelter Power Plant Addition
Jiangxi Thermal Power Construction Corporation has won a contract to erect Unit 4 of Xinjiang Jiarun Resource Holdings Company Limited's Changji Aluminum Smelter 2x350 Megawatt (MW) Cogeneration Power Plant Unit Addition Project, according to Power China.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Jiangxi Thermal Power Construction Corporation (JTPCC) (Nanchang, Jiangxi), has won a contract to erect Unit 4 of Xinjiang Jiarun Resource Holdings Company Limited (Changji, Xinjiang)'s Changji Aluminum Smelter 2x350 Megawatt (MW) Cogeneration Power Plant Unit Addition Project, according to Power China.
JTPCC, a subsidiary of Power Construction Engineering Corporation of China (Power China) (Beijing), will erect and commission the unit. The contract includes the air-cooling island, the flue gas desulfurization and nitrogen oxide devices, as well as the supply and erection of the required equipment and materials for the performance test. Total value of the contract amounts to about $26 million.
The Changji Aluminum Smelter is located 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) east of Manas County in Changji Prefecture of Northwest China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The smelter is expected to have a production capacity of 1.6 million metric tons per year of aluminum ingot and will have eight 350 megawatt (MW) coal-fired units, to be built in phases.
The first phase of the project includes 800,000 metric tons per year of aluminum ingot production capacity, and a 4x350 MW cogeneration power plant.
The cogeneration power plant is located on the north side of the aluminum smelter. Units 1 and 2 were commissioned this month.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) general contract for the Unit 3 and 4 Addition project was awarded to Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai). The civil construction contract was awarded in September 2013 to the No.1 Engineering Company of China No.15 Metallurgical Construction Group (Huangshi, Hubei), and the Jiangxi Hydropower Engineering Bureau (Nanchang, Jiangxi).
As reported, the first concrete placement for the main powerhouse of the unit addition project had been achieved on October 20, 2013. According to the schedule, the project will begin operation in July 2015.
