New Belgium Brewing Preparing for a Fat Expansion at Colorado Brewery

The plans call for a 76,000 square-foot building addition at the 365,000 barrels per year brewery that will add room for a new high-speed bottling and packaging line, cold and dry warehouse space, as well as a new shipping dock.

BNIM Architects (Kansas City, Missouri) provided the design for the addition and Swinerton Builders (Arvada, Colorado) was awarded the design-build contract for this estimated $15 million project. Local contractor Southland Industries (Centennial, Colorado) will be the prime mechanical contractor. Construction is expected to get underway within the next 60 days, once final design changes are made and approved, and construction is expected to take about ten to twelve months to complete.

The New Belgium Brewing Company traces its origin to a bike ride through Belgium that inspired the company's founder Jeff Lebesch. That jaunt is remembered with the company's Fat Tire ale. The regional brewery's other beers go by names like Sunshine, Loft, and Blue Paddle. New Belgium brews are available in fifteen states in the western U.S. New Belgium Brewing is considered one of the fastest growing craft brewers in the U.S. and expects to sell more than 350,000 barrels of beer in 2005.
