Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--NewEn Australia Pty Limited (Melbourne, Australia), a renewable energy company based in Australia, is conducting engineering and final design on the proposed 12-megawatt (MW) Salt Creek Windfarm project in Australia. The company has already received capital approvals and consents for the project and is currently working on the final design to revise the size and capacity of the windfarm.

NewEn Australia is proposing to build the windfarm at Salt Creek, which is south of Woorndoo, Victoria. The initial project proposal planned for 15 turbines of 3-MW each to produce approximately 45 MW of electricity. However, due to the new regulations and market demands, NewEn has decided to redesign the project with fewer turbines to produce only 12 MW of electricity.

The windfarm was granted with planning permits in 2007; however, NewEn had to deal with more than 200 conditions and sub-conditions, before the capital approval was granted in 2012. NewEn had several negotiations with Powercor for access to the transmission line, which was an additional cause for the delay in project development.

According to the revised design, Salt Creek will be built only with six 2-MW turbines to produce approximately 12 MW of electricity. The project is in its preliminary engineering phase, and the company is planning to begin the construction by the end of 2014. Overall construction is expected to take about 10 months, and the completion is expected in 2015.

NewEn Australia is investing $1 billion in two windfarm projects in Australia.

The Dundonnell project will have an installed capacity of 270 MW and will consist of 90 turbines of 3 MW each. The project is at the Dundonnell, near the proposed Salt Creek windfarm. At the moment, the project is in its detailed design phase. Construction at the site is expected to begin in February 2015 and last about 24 to 27 months.

The Wingeel Project is another windfarm in its very early stages, and is planned to produce a total output of 200 MW, equipped with 80 turbines. NewEn expects to start construction of this windfarm by end of 2015. Both these projects together will produce enough electricity to 4,000 homes in Victoria.
