Ohio's Clifty Creek Power Station Recovers from Steam Leak

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--All but one 217-megawatt (MW) coal-fired unit remains out of service at Ohio Valley Electric Corporation's (Piketon, Ohio) Clifty Creek Power Station.

Beginning in the middle of July, the 1,304-MW station was completely offline for almost two weeks because of the discovery of a steam leak in one of the units. Some units have generated no power for almost a month.

While the units were off, steam channels and pipes were inspected, and miscellaneous repairs were made. Plant contacts have confirmed that only one unit remains offline, but this is expected to be returned to service over the weekend.

The Clifty Creek Power Station is owned by Ohio Valley Electric Company, which is owned by several other utilities, including Allegheny Energy (NYSE:AYE) (Greensburg, Pennsylvania), American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus, Ohio), Buckeye Power Incorporated (Columbus), Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), DPL Incorporated (NYSE:DPL) (Dayton, Ohio), E.ON AG (OTC:EONGY) (Dusseldorf, Germany), FirstEnergy Corporation (NYSE:FE) (Akron, Ohio) and Vectren Corporation (NYSE:VVC) (Evansville, Indiana).
