Ontario's 880-Megawatt Goreway Generating Station Completed after Decade of Development

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The $942 million Goreway Generating Station project in Brampton, Ontario, commenced development at the end of the twentieth century. Originally developed as a merchant plant, after changes in economic conditions, the owners, Goreway Station Partnership, decided to build only if they had a power purchase agreement in place to ensure a return on investment. The power purchase agreement obtained is for 20 years with the Ontario Power Authority (Toronto). Goreway Station Partnership (Brampton) and operator Sithe Global Canadian Power Services Limited (Brampton) are both affiliates of Sithe Global Power LLC (New York, New York) an 80:20 partnership of The Blackstone Group LP (NYSE:BX) and Reservoir Capital Group, both of New York, New York.

Construction began on the Goreway Generating Station in the second quarter of 2006 and was completed in June 2009. The project was built as a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction project by SNC-Lavalin Power Ontario Incorporated, a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin Group Incorporated (TSX:SNC) (Montreal, Quebec). The generating station uses model D-11 steam turbine/generators manufactured by GE Energy (Atlanta, Georgia), a division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), as well as three GE combustion turbine/generators (model MS7001FB). The three heat-recovery steam generators are duct-fired, triple pressure Nooter/Eriksen generators with dry low-nitrogen-oxide combustors and selective catalytic reduction to reduce air emissions.
