Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Cordoba, Argentina)--Productos Quimicos Panamericanos (PQP) (Bogota, Colombia), a company that specializes in processing and distributing a wide range of chemical, industrial, agricultural and consumer products, will expand two of its plants in Colombia and is planning to invest in other countries in Latin America, thus expanding its operations in the region.

Productos Químicos Panamericanos owns seven processing plants in Colombia. Two of these sites, one in Neiva (Huila) and the second one in Bogota (Bogota), will undergo expansion projects in 2013.

PQP will invest $5 million in the expansion of its fertilizers unit at the Neiva site, which has a production capacity of 10,000 metric tons per year. The execution of this project is to kick off in January 2013 and its completion, with a yet-to-be-defined new capacity, is expected to take place eight months later, in September 2013.

An expansion of the 9,500-metric-ton-per-year sulfonic acid unit, which is in the Bogota plant, will demand a $1 million investment. The company plans to expand its production capacity by an estimated 50%. This undertaking is to start in May 2013, and its completion will be in November. The total investments for both projects are scheduled to take place in September and October, respectively.

These expansion projects are part of PQP's reorganization plans, which include investments in different divisions, both locally and regionally. As part of the measures, Productos Quimicos Panamericanos is taking in order to expand its business to other countries in the area; the firm has acquired a sulfuric acid plant in Ecuador and a detergent plant in the Dominican Republic. Furthermore, PQP is considering expanding to Chile and Peru, where new plants may be constructed.
