Punto Fijo’s Unit 7 Start-Up Date Delayed After 8 Months of Rehabilitation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Venezuela’s Punto Fijo Power Station has rescheduled once again the start-up date of Plant 1’s Gas Turbine Number 7 (20 MW), which was shut down for rehabilitation in mid-January.

General Electric officials were responsible for the rehabilitation from the beginning, and recently, while they were performing the Full Speed No Load (FSNL) turbine testing, they found some vibration and alignment problems with the Hitachi MS 5000 Turbine. According to Punto Fijo’s Environmental Area, they expect to finish with some minor details by the end of October.

As the gas turbine is on FSNL, problems can be identified and can be addressed without disturbing the running plant, considering that the gas turbine is very critical equipment with respect to plant operations. During the restoration, CADAFE’s (Compañía Anónima de Administración y Fomento Eléctrico) operators have examined the turbine, generator and compressor and have replaced the combustion chamber.
