Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Venezuela’s Punto Fijo Power Station has postponed the start-up date of Plant 1’s Gas Turbine Number 7 (Hitachi MS 5000), which was shutdown for rehabilitation January 15, 2006. During the restoration, CADAFE’s operators have examined the turbine, generator and compressor and replaced the combustion chamber.

At the same time, they have installed GE Mark V, a turbine controller manufactured by General Electric. The hardware and software program includes a Human-Machine Interface (HMI), which will provide Punto Fijo’s users means of input - to manipulate a system and output - to produce the effects of the users' manipulation. By early August, operators performed start-up tests at the 20 MW gas turbine and they expect to finish some minor details in a couple of weeks.

The General Electric Gas Turbine Number 13 (GE M5000) was shutdown together with Unit 7 for rehabilitation and it hasn’t resumed operations yet. According to Punto Fijo’s officials, it may recommence by the end of October 2007.

The 200 MW Thermal Power Station is located in Las Margaritas, Falcon State and is managed by Venezuela’s State Owned Electricity Company, CADAFE (Compañía Anónima de Administración y Fomento Eléctrico).

CADAFE was founded on October 25, 1958 and its aim is to generate, transmit, distribute and commercialize Electric Energy. It has five subsidiaries within the Venezuelan territory: CADELA, ELEORIENTE, ELEOCCIDENTE, ELECENTRO and DESURCA.
