Quad Cities Nuclear Unit Forced Offline for Repairs

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 867-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 of the Quad Cities Nuclear Station in Cordova, Illinois, which is owned by Exelon Nuclear Company (Kennett Square, Pennsylvania), a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois), tripped offline August 12 because of problems with the facility's instrumentation.

The cause for the turbine's going offline remains under investigation. However, plant sources state that the outage is expected to be brief and are projecting that the unit will return online Friday, August 13, if there are no complications. The Quad Cities station has two generating units and a total generating capacity of 1,734 MW. Both units 1 and 2 began operating in 1972.
