Saint Gobain to Commission Bhiwadi Flat Glass Plant by End of 2011

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Glass company Saint Gobain India Limited (Mumbai, India) is building a flat glass plant in Bhiwadi with the capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day. The new unit is expected to be built in the second half of 2011. The completion cost of project has been estimated to be about $225 million. The company is building a captive power plant of 4.9 megawatts (MW).

The company has started the construction of the plant. Rohan Buildings is the construction company. Saint Gobain expects the project to be completed by December 2012.

French glass manufacturer Saint Gobain will double its manpower in India in two years. The firm, which is in the process of setting up a new glass house complex in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, will hire about 1,000 employees for the new unit. The Saint Gobain group employs more than 2.07 people globally.

French giant Saint Gobain operates through a number of firms in India. These include privately held Saint Gobain Glass India, which manufactures flat glass; India Gypsum, which manufactures plasterboards; SEPR Refractories; Saint Gobain Weber; and Saint Gobain Seva. In addition, the group has two public listed firms: Grindwell Norton, a leading manufacturer of abrasives, ceramics and silicon carbide; and Saint Gobain Sekurit India, which manufactures automotive glass.
