San Diego Gas & Electric Completes 47-Megawatt Expansion in California

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California), has completed construction and commenced commercial operation of the estimated $50 million, 47-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Miramar Peaking Station located in San Diego, California.

Construction of the project began earlier this year and was completed in the spring. SDG&E began full commercial operation of the new expansion project earlier this month. The project consisted of installing an additional natural-gas-fired, 47-MW GE Energy LM6000 PC SPRINT combustion turbine generator to the existing facility. The new unit will operate in a simple-cycle peaking capacity and will utilize state state-of-the-art emissions technology, such as both demineralized water injection and selective catalytic reduction with ammonia for nitrogen oxide control.

Wellhead Electric Company Incorporated (Sacramento, California) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services during the construction of the project.
