Santana Textiles Begins Construction on Texas Manufacturing Plant
Santana Textiles (Ceara, Brazil) has begun construction on a new denim manufacturing plant in Edinburg, Texas.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Santana Textiles (Ceara, Brazil) has begun construction on a new denim manufacturing plant in Edinburg, Texas. The Phase I construction has an estimated total investment value of $51 million.
Santana plans to construct a 200,000-square-foot building on a 23-acre site with the installation of production and supporting equipment. Site preparation began in July. Completion of Phase I is expected by the early summer of 2011, but the plant will not officially open until 2012. Three more phases are expected to be constructed consecutively.
The completed complex, located in an industrial park off U.S. 281, will house the company's spinning and weaving operations, and the warehouses where the denim will be stored. Approximately $180 million is expected to be invested once the plant is fully operational.
Valley Steel Construction (San Benito, Texas) was selected to perform steel and site work for the new plant.
Brazil-based Santana Textiles has established a temporary office in McAllen, Texas. The company first announced the construction of a new North American plant in 2008. The company considered many locations but selected Edinburg because of its proximity to cotton growers and important denim markets in Mexico and Los Angeles, California.
