Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Sioux Steel Company, a manufacturer of farm and agricultural metal products including grain bins and metal livestock buildings, has been in business in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota since 1918. The city has literally grown up around their 12 acres of land over the years and has made it impossible for the company to expand. A fire in February of this year halted some painting and welding operations. So, the company has begun to shift some operations to a spec building in an industrial park located in Lennox, South Dakota.
The company hopes to be able to double production capacity for its agricultural metal bins and building products with room to expand in Lennox. In fact the company is close to selecting Empire Construction (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) as general contractor for a 50,000 square foot building addition in Lennox. The $2 million project will include the installation of a previously purchased powder coating line, a new crane, and welding machines. Construction on the new building should start before the end of the year, and the company plans to have its new facility up and operating by the spring of 2003.
Sioux Steel also has a division in Lennox by the name of Quaker Manufacturing Company. They manufacture loaders, buckets, and utility vehicles.
