Siouxland Energy Completes 35 Million-Gallon Expansion at Iowa Fuel-Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Farmer-investor-owned Siouxland Energy and Livestock Cooperative (Sioux Center, Iowa) has completed a 35 million-gallon-per-year ethanol-plant expansion at its facility in Sioux Center, Iowa. Siouxland's plant in Sioux Center initially came online back in December 2001 as a 25 million-gallon-per-year plant, and with the increased production, the facility can now produce upwards of 60 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol.

The plant initially utilized Gaylor Engineering (Homosassa Springs, Florida), and then ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) came in and corrected some inefficiencies with the existing plant and aided Siouxland with its expansion. The company also hired subcontractors, procured equipment and helped with start-up procedures with the new expansion.

Construction on the expansion began in May 2007, and an estimated $30 million was invested to boost the plant's capacity. At 60 million gallons per year, the plant requires some 23 million bushels of corn annually to produce the fuel.

With the Siouxland expansion now online, Iowa has now pushed ethanol production to more than 2 billion gallons per year. Twenty-nine plants are now running in the state, and 17 more plants are under construction. After all current new construction and expansion activity is complete, Iowa will have more than 3.6 billion gallons of ethanol production capacity.
