Skanska to Build Two New Units at Petrobras’ PRBC Refinery

The agreement with Petrobras (NYSE:PBR), Skanska’s repeated customer in the energy sector in Latin America, will demand a total $84 million investment, of which Skanska's share is $55 million. The undertaking will be carried out by a consortium formed by the Swedish company, 65%, and Engevix Engenharia, a Brazilian engineering company in São Paulo, which holds the remaining 35% of the group.

The contract involves the construction of a sulfur-recuperation unit and a residual gas treatment unit for the refinery. It also includes the detailed engineering, procurement, construction and assembly, commissioning, and start-up assistance of the plant. The adequacy of two already existing units, Sulfur Recovery 1 (SRU1) and Sulfur Recovery 2 (SRU2), is included in the contract, which was signed on August 31, 2007. The project, scheduled to be completed within 29 months, started immediately after the contract was signed; presently, the consortium is already performing the dirt movement in the area for the new units and the detailed engineering of the project.
