Southeast Asia Ramps Up Biodiesel Mandate

Starting October 1, the Philippines increased biodiesel blend to 3% (B3) from B2. The biodiesel blend is seen to continue growing as the government plans to increase up to 4% (B4) by 2025 and 5% (B5) by 2026.

Indonesia has begun testing 40% (B40) on trains in preparation for the 2025 40% (B40) biodiesel mandate. Indonesia, as the world's biggest palm oil producer, will not have issues with feedstock availability even with its plans to increase the biodiesel mandate to 50% (B50) in the coming years.

Malaysia, as part of a low-carbon campaign, has rolled out the 30% (B30) biodiesel mandate for its transportation sector to start by 2025. The higher the biodiesel blend means replacing imported petroleum with locally produced, environmentally friendly and sustainable fuel.
