Sterling Ethanol's Second Colorado Plant Begins Rising from the Ground

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Sterling Ethanol LLC's (Sterling, Colorado) second Colorado ethanol plant is beginning to take shape, as the tank farm begins rising from the ground and production equipment is being delivered to the site. All of the plant's dirt work is complete, and concrete has been poured for major structures.

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 50 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant that will process more than 19 million bushels of corn annually. The plant is on a 40-acre site east of Bridgeport in Mesa County. The project is a bit behind schedule, but the weather has been permissive, and Sterling is optimistic that the August 2008 completion date can be met to be ready for the new corn harvest.

The plant is being designed and built by ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas), and a lot of preliminary dirt work started in September of this year. Cost estimates to construct the facility are in the $80 million range.

Sterling is also wrapping up an expansion project at its first Colorado plant located in Sterling. The molecular sieve parts have arrived, and the new capacity is expected to be online by the first quarter of 2008.
