Food service industry giant, SYSCO Corporation (NYSE: SYY) (Houston, Texas) and subsidiary SYSCO Food Services of Cleveland (Miami, Florida) are constructing a new food distribution center and office complex in Cleveland, Ohio. The company purchased 52 acres of property near Hopkins airport and the contractor is currently performing site preparation and foundation work at the new location for the $50 plus million, 650,000 square foot complex.
SYSCO selected general contractor Welliver McGuire Incorporated (Montour Falls, New York) and the company is estimating construction of the facility will be finished by Mothers Day of 2004. Once completed, operations will be relocated from an existing facility in Bedford Heights, Ohio.
The site will be configured with a sub-zero freezer, cooler and dry storage area. New office area and multiple shipping and receiving docks will allow SYSCO to expand and take on more customers.
SYSCO Corporation operates 142 locations throughout the United States and portions of Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. SYSCO's product lines are as diverse as the 46,000 employees who support its daily operations. They include not only the ingredients needed to prepare meals, but also numerous ancillary preparation and serving items for the foodservice industry.
