Teksid Sylacauga Expanding Again - Third Expansion the Lucky Key

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Teksid Aluminum Components of Sylacauga, Alabama, a division of Teksid Aluminum North America Incorporated (Plymouth, Michigan), a subsidiary of TK Aluminum Limited (Carmagnola, Italy) has recently begun construction on a $4 million, 50,000 square foot expansion of its engine block production operations. The new addition, contiguous to the nearly-completed plant (announced in 2003) in which Teksid plans to make cylinder blocks for Hyundai beginning in 2005, will produce 235,000 V6 Duratec engine blocks for Ford sedans and crossover vehicles (XUVs) by 2007.

This expansion marks the third time in less than four years that Teksid has had the need to expand, this time at a total cost of $26.7 million and the addition of 95-100 new employees, bringing Teksid's total employment count in Alabama to 625 from the present 450. Teksid estimates its Sylacauga investment at nearly $200 million since its initial announcement that it would build a plant in Sylacauga in November 1999. When the two most recent expansions are completed, Teksid expects to produce a combined total of 1,061,000 blocks a year for Nissan, Hyundai, and Ford.

Construction on the expansion project began in late October and is expected to be completed in June 2005. Gaston Construction of Sylacauga was chosen as constructor.
