Two Grassroot Plant Startups Planned for the Chemical Processing Industry during July

Although this is very small in comparison to startup activity in recent months, each of the new plants planned to be complete this month are very large plants that will play key roles in their regions. Texas Brine Company LLC (Houston, Texas) is preparing to begin commercial operations of its new $30 million brine tank farm located in White Castle, Louisiana. This new plant consists of several million gallon storage tanks and filtering equipment for raw and finished brine storage supporting the feedstock needs for a new vinyls complex being constructed next door by Shintech Incorporated (Freeport, Texas). The Shintech plant, also under construction, is expected to begin commercial operations towards the end of the year.

Johnson Diversey Incorporated (Sturtevant, Wisconsin) announced plans last year for a grassroot distribution center to be located in Racine, Wisconsin. Construction for this new 650,000 square foot plant site began last year and all indicators show it to be on schedule for mechanical completion very soon and a startup in the coming weeks or months. This new site is intended to consolidate at least five existing operations in the local area achieving a greater level of efficiency and cost effectiveness.

July will be among the slowest months for CPI plant startups during 2007 in the United States and Canada. Each month of the first quarter also totaled only two new plant startups each month. July is also expected to be the last month of this slow activity with five or more new CPI plant startups pending in each of the next four months.
