Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 1 at the coal-fired Conemaugh Generating Station, which is located in New Florence, Pennsylvania, was forced offline Thursday evening. Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), which is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE:PEG) (PSEG) (Newark, New Jersey), holds the majority stake in the station.

Unit 1, which generates 936 megawatts (MW), had to be brought offline after a tube was found to be leaking in the boiler. Plant personnel currently are allowing the boiler to cool so workers can patch the leaks safely. The process generally takes three to four days to complete; the unit is scheduled to return to service Monday.

The Conemaugh Power Station comprises two units with a total capacity of 1,711 MW. Unit 2 is online and running at full power.
