Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 1,130-megawatt (MW) nuclear Unit 1 at Limerick Power Station in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, was shut down due to an electro-hydraulic control valve issue (EHC), which caused one out of six intercept valves to close. The power station is owned by Exelon Generation LLC, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois).
Plant officials said they will begin to make necessary repairs after a complete investigation. Officials said that it was unclear when the unit would be ready to return online, but also said they anticipate returning the unit no later than March 10, if there is no delay. However, they plan to discuss whether it is feasible to keep the unit off-line for the planned refueling outage.
Unit 1 is scheduled to begin refueling March 24 for 30 to 35 days. The nuclear plant has two generating units and a total generating capacity of 2,290 MW.
Exelon is one of the largest competitive U.S. power generators, with approximately 34,700 MW of owned capacity.
