Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--On September 16, 2013, China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), the project contractor for Unit 1 of China Datang Corporation's (Beijing) 12,000-megawatt (MW) Huaibei Hushan Coal-fired Power Project, announced that the project had been connected to the grid for the first time on September 12. The unit is expected to begin operating commercially by the end of September 2013.
The construction and erection of the unit is contracted to Anhui Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Company (AEPC1) (Hefei, Anhui), a subsidiary of CEEC. On September 9, AEPC1 completed the boiler ignition and steam turbine startup, two major preparation works for the first successful connection to the grid. By the evening of September 12, all testing prior to the grid connection had been completed. Following an order from the grid dispatching center, the unit was connected to the grid with a 20% load for trial operation.
The Datang Huaibei Hushan Coal-fired Power Project, located in Songtuan Town, Lieshan District of Huaibei City, is referred as the relocation and expansion of Datang Huaibei Power Plant. The driving idea behind the project is to replace small units with larger ones. The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in July 2010. According to CEEC, the project will be furnished with two 660-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units; a highly efficient electrostatic dust-remover; flue gas desulfurization; denitration devices; and an online monitoring system.
Construction of the project kicked off in August 2010, but the first concrete placement did not kick off until 2012. The turbines, generators and boilers--the main equipment for the project--were supplied by Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai) and Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan).
According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations by the end of 2013.
