Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 605-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 2 at Coal Creek Power Station, which is located in Underwood, North Dakota, is expected to shut down Friday evening to repair two leaking safety valves. The plant is owned by Great River Energy (Maple Grove, Minnesota).
Officials said they continue to investigate the issue while the unit remains online. They will perform an analysis before repairs begin, and expect the turnaround to be brief.
The Coal Creek station has two generating units with a combined capacity of 1,210 MW. Unit 1 will continue to operate at full load.
The unit should return to service by Sunday, July 12, if there are no delays.
