A transformer failure caused a generator at the Teche Power Station in Louisiana to go offline
Released Tuesday, July 21, 2015
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A 349-megawatt (MW) generator at the Teche Power Station, which is located in Baldwin, Louisiana, likely will remain offline for at least three weeks following a transformer failure on July 14, according to plant officials. The station is owned by Cleco Power LLC, a subsidiary of Cleco Corporation (NYSE:CNL) (Pineville).
Unit 3 is the largest of the Teche station's generating units.
A transformer incurred a fault during a plant re-start, which forced the unit offline. No further damage was caused to the surrounding units.
Maintenance personnel performed several tests to identify the cause of the failure, but there was nothing definitive uncovered at the time. Plant personnel were trying to determine the cause of the event.
Teche Power Station comprises two generating units, as well as a 38-MW black-start combustion turbine. The total plant capacity is 427 MW.
