Valero Renewables' Nebraska Ethanol Plant Running at Full Speed

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Renewables Albion (Albion, Nebraska), a subsidiary of Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas), is operating and producing ethanol at full speed at its recently acquired fuel-ethanol plant in Albion. The plant had been shut down for about a month while the acquisition with VeraSun Energy Corporation (OTC:VSUNQ) (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) was under way.

Steam coming from the stacks again was a welcome site for the community as the plant retained its jobs, revenue and the county tax base. The plant produces 110 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually from 39 million bushels of locally grown corn, along with 350,000 tons of distillers grains feed additives.

The Albion plant is also one of the largest plants involved in the $477 million acquisition deal with VeraSun. Valero acquired seven of VeraSun's operating ethanol plants in the April deal. The plants are located in Albert City, Charles City, Fort Dodge and Hartley, Iowa; Albion, Nebraska; Aurora, South Dakota; and Welcome, Minnesota.

Only one of the seven plants is not in operation. The Welcome plant is currently going through start-up procedures and is expected to resume grinding corn on June 25.
