West Virginia Wood Pellet Plant Begins Operations

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Appalachian Wood Pellets Incorporated (Kingwood, West Virginia), a division of Allegheny Wood Products Incorporated (Petersburg, West Virginia), this week started wood fuel pellet production at its Kingwood plant.

The automated plant will work around the clock to utilize waste wood brought in on conveyors from the adjacent Allegheny Wood Products wood mill. The pellets will be available through distributors and are made to be used in residential wood-burning stoves. If feasible, Allegheny Wood may bring in additional waste wood from the company's four other locations. The mill in Kingwood is Alleghany Wood's largest.

The complex, which is approximately 63 miles southwest of Charleston, West Virginia, employs 10 people and will produce 50,000 tons of wood pellets annually.

Currently, West Virginia has three other wood fuel pellet plants in operation, producing a combined 130,000 tons annually. No other fuel pellet plants are being planned at this time.
