Western Geopower Nears Completion of Geysers Geothermal Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Western Geopower Corporation (OTC:WGPWF) (Vancouver, British Columbia) is moving closer to operation for a 10-megawatt (MW) geothermal power unit, Unit 1, under lease at the Geysers Geothermal Field in Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco, California.

The company is waiting to install a 40-MW top exhausting geothermal condensing steam turbine generator supplied by Fuji Electric Corporation. Western Geopower currently has four production wells drilled. It is 75% complete and anticipates that only one more production well needs to be drilled to attain its goal. Delivery and installation of the turbine is scheduled for completion no later than October 2009. Once installed, the site is expected to service 35,000 to 40,000 customers. Unit 1 is scheduled to begin commercial operation in the first quarter of 2010.

Interconnection issues are not of great concern, since there is an existing 115-kilovolt transmission line adjacent to the facility. Pacific Gas & Electric, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG) (San Francisco) has signed a power-purchase agreement for 25.5 MW of the unit's output.
