TransAlta Increases New Brunswick and Alberta Wind Capacity

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas--TransAlta Corporation (NYSE:TAC) (Calgary, Alberta) has begun construction on two windfarm projects in Canada. A grassroot windfarm with a capacity of approximately 69 megawatts (MW) is being constructed in Alberta, while a windfarm in New Brunswick is being expanded.

The expansion is occurring at the Kent Hills Windfarm, which currently has 32 wind turbines and a nameplate capacity of 96 MW. The expansion will add 18 Vestas 3-MW V90 wind turbines. The additional turbines will increase capacity by 54 MW to an operating potential of 150 MW.

The Ardenville windfarm is a grassroot project consisting of 23 Vestas 3-MW V90 wind turbines. This windfarm is located just south of Fort Macleod, Alberta.

The balance-of-plant contracts for both projects were awarded to Rising Edge Engineering Limited (Calgary). Both windfarms are scheduled to be operational and commissioned before the end of this year.
