French Energy Bill: Nuclear Power Down, Renewables Up

GALWAY, IRELAND--June 27 , 2014 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) France has released a draft of its long-awaited Energy Bill confirming that the country's reliance on nuclear power will be reduced by a third while there will be a big jump in the use of renewable energy.

The bill, which was presented by French energy and environment minister Ségolène Royal, confirms that nuclear energy will be capped at its current total of 63.2 gigawatts (GW) - around 75% of France's total electricity demand - but its share will be reduced to 50% of the mix by 2025.
