GALWAY, IRELAND--January 20, 2015 --Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) The U.K. government has called for an urgent commission into the North Sea oil and gas industry after major players BP plc (NYSE:BP) (London, England) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) (Houston, Texas) announced more than 500 job cuts.

British energy company BP said it was laying off 200 workers making up part of its onshore staff at its North Sea operations.
