Motiva Battles Fire at Convent, Louisiana, Refinery
A Motiva Enterprises oil refinery in Convent Louisiana experienced an explosion in one of its units around 11:00 am today. The 45,000-barrels-per-day (b/d) hydrocracker unit that caught of fire is part of a 230,000 b/d facility. According to news reports, the plant was evacuated and employees appear to be unharmed. According to Willy Martin of the St. James Parish sheriff's office, air quality monitoring is being conducted to make sure there was no community impact.
