JOHANNESBURG--December 11, 2012--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--At 2.4 million tons a year, what is claimed to be the world's largest sinter plant was launched by Kalagadi Manganese (Johannesburg) near Hotazel in South Africa's Northern Cape last week. The manganese mine at the site is the first in the country to be owned by a black woman. Daphne Mashile-Nkosi said before the launch, the commissioning of the $1.3 billion integrated project includes the underground mine and sintering plant as well as a planned ferromanganese smelter in the Eastern Cape. This latter project still needs to be tendered.
