Endesa Inaugurates First Wind-Generating Park in Chile

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Endesa Eco, a subsidiary of Endesa Chile (Santiago, Chile) dedicated to the development of renewable energy, has recently inaugurated the first windfarm connected to the Central Interconnected Electricity System (SIC), Chile's main electricity system. Endesa Chile, a subsidiary of Enersis (NYSE:ENI), is an electricity generating company that has a presence in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Chile.

The Canela windfarm is in Chile's Region IV in the Canela Community of Choapa Province about 186 miles from Santiago. The wind-power generation plant includes 11 wind turbines provided by the Danish Company Vestas Eolicas that supply a total power output of 18.15 megawatts (MW).

The first wind turbine was installed at the site in August 2007. For details, view related August 16, 2007, article - Endesa Eco Installs the First Turbine at Canela Wind Park in Chile. The 11 generators are connected to the substation through a 23-kilovolt (kV) line, which is transformed to 220 kV at the substation and transferred to the grid, which is connected through two 220-kV lines. These lines connect to the Los Vilos-Pan de Azucar high-tension line.

The wind park's inaugural ceremony was presided by Chilean President Michelle Bachellet and Endesa's President Jose Manuel Entrecanales. Endesa, Enersis and Endesa Chile executives also attended the event, along with Energy Minister Marcelo Tokman and Public Works Minister Eduardo Bitran.

The Chilean branch of Norway's SN Power is developing a 50-MW wind project in Canela Municipality next to Endesa Chile's windfarm, which is due for completion at the beginning of 2009.
