Projects in Minnesota's Dodge County Could Double State's Wind-Power Capacity

The 42.45 MW of wind generation in Dodge County comes from the McNeilus windfarm, which is controlled by G. McNeilus Wind LLC (Dodge Center, Minnesota).

Three companies are looking at an additional 950 MW in the county. This also would more than double the state's total wind capacity from 942 MW to 1,895 MW. Renewable Energy Systems Incorporated (Austin, Texas), a subsidiary of Sir Robert McAlpine Limited's (Hempstead, England) Renewable Energy Systems Limited (Kings Langley, England), is developing the 200 MW Ashland Township windfarm; a joint venture of High Country Energy LLC, a group of local investors and National Wind LLC (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is developing the 300 MW High Country windfarm; and Nature Energies' (France) U.S. office is developing the 450 MW Western Dodge County windfarm.

Developers in other areas besides Dodge County are looking at an additional 1,000 MW that would increase the state's wind capacity to about 3,000 MW, making Minnesota a leader in wind power generation.
