Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) (Shreveport, Louisiana), a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus, Ohio), is in the process of installing a 500-megawatt (MW) natural-gas-fired combined-cycle unit at its 125 MW Arsenal Hill Power Station in Shreveport, Louisiana. The station is called Arsenal Hill because it was built on top of a civil war arsenal in 1912; its current operating unit, Unit 55, was installed in 1960.
The addition of the combined-cycle unit will cost about $375 million and will require a construction staff of about 350 people. Once the unit is operational it will require a staff of 29 people, up from the current 14 now on site.
