Strategic Squeeze on Energy-Starved India to Secure Oil and Gas Supplies

BANGALORE, INDIA--June 18, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--India, Iran and Pakistan have been unable to resolve their differences over the $7.4 billion gas pipeline project even as the 45-day deadline to resolve safety and security concerns pertaining to the project expired on June 15. India's Minister of External Affairs is scheduled to attend the upcoming India-Iran Joint Commission meeting on July 29-30 and is expected to introduce the pipeline issue into the forum. In April 2008, India committed $135 million to develop the Kaladan waterway, Sittwe port and inter-connecting roads in western Myanmar, hoping to tap into the country's rich gas and oil reserves.
