Big Wind in South Dakota

SUGAR LAND--August 11, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Wind developers in South Dakota were thinking on a grand scale even before the announcement by oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens that 20% of our electricity must come from renewable energy sources. The billionaire has recently backed his play by signing a record $2 billion wind turbine deal with General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) for his expansive 4,000-megawatt (MW) windfarms being developed in West Texas. In addition, BP Alternative Energy, a business unit of BP plc (NYSE:BP) (London), and Clipper Windpower (LON:CWP) (London), a major supplier of wind turbines, have upped the ante and announced plans to jointly develop the 5,050-MW Titan windfarm, which will be built in multiple phases, near Saint Lawrence, South Dakota.
