Japan Begins Incorporating More Natural Gas in Power Sector

TOKYO, JAPAN--November 11, 2010--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In recent years, the Japanese government has been encouraging the use of natural gas in power plants across the country to help combat global warming. Japan is a major consumer of natural gas and has more than 40 liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals that handle up to 3 trillion cubic feet per year of LNG imports. Last year, Japan consumed at least 3.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, with the remaining 3 billion cubic feet produced domestically. The country's natural gas reserves have declined by 662 billion cubic feet since 2007, when they were last measured at 1.4 trillion cubic feet.
