Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Brazilian state oil company Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (NYSE:PBR) (Petrobras) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), through regional subsidiary Petrobras Bolivia (Santa Cruz, Bolivia), plans to inaugurate on December 28, 2013, a new natural gas dew point plant in Tarija Department, south of Bolivia. Petrobras invested a total amount of $110 million to construct this plant, which will have a processing capacity of 5.7 million cubic meters of natural gas.
Exterran Partners LP (Houston, Texas), through its regional company Exterran Bolivia (Santa Cruz, Bolivia), was awarded the Turnkey contract for the project. In turn, Exterran Bolivia selected the Argentinian-Bolivian contractor Kaiser (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) to perform the construction, which began on December 27, 2011. Kaiser also performed plant-mounting works.
The new plant will be installed on Itau Natural Gas Production Field in southern Bolivia. The operation concession for this field is shared between the companies Total Bolivia (41%), Petrobras Bolivia (30%), BG Bolivia (25%) and YPFB Chaco (4%).
This will be the third natural gas plant operated by Petrobras, which already operates Sabalo Natural Gas Processing Plant, in San Antonio Natural Gas Field, and San Alberto Natural Gas Processing Plant, in San Alberto Natural Gas Field. In addition to the plants, Petrobras also operates those fields.
The new natural gas dew point plant, which is planned to begin operations in December 2013, will supply YABOG Natural Gas Pipeline, from Yacuiba to Rio Grande, in Bolivia, and GASBOL Natural Gas Pipeline, from Rio Grande to Brazil. Brazil is currently the main buyer for the natural gas coming from Bolivia. New Itau Natural Gas Plant will allow Bolivia to keep supplying gas to the Brazilian market.
