Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Diamantina Power Station Pty Limited (DPS), a special purpose joint venture entity of APA Group (Brisbane, Australia) and AGL Limited (Victoria, Australia), is continuing with the construction of the 60-megawatt (MW) Leichhardt Open-Cycle Natural Gas Power Plant in Australia. The project has an estimated investment of $65 million.
The Leichhardt Power Station (LPS) will be located in the Mount Isa, Queensland, adjacent to the 242-MW Diamantina Power Station. Leighton Contractors Pty Limited (Brisbane, Australia) was selected to perform the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the project. According to the schedule, full commissioning of the power plant is scheduled to begin in June 2014.
Diamantina Power Station Pty Limited is developing another project in the same location, the Diamantina Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant, which will produce 242 MW. Construction involves an estimated investment of $500 million, and completion of the project is expected by the second quarter of 2014. The EPC contract for the Diamantina project was awarded to Forge Power Limited (Perth, Australia), while Siemens Australia (Victoria, Australia) has been selected as a principal contractor and long-term service provider for maintaining the assets. Diamantina will consist of two 40-MW gas turbines (SGT-800), two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and one 40-MW steam turbo generator (SST-400).
Leighton Construction Pty Limited (Sydney, Australia) secured the EPC contract for the LPS project, and Sinclair Knight Merz Pty Limited (Brisbane, Australia) and Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Limited (Brisbane) are looking over the project management, contract administration and project control matters for APA Consortium and Leighton, respectively. UGL Limited (North Sydney, Australia) is constructing the 1.4-kilometer (km) transmission line project, which will connect both Diamantina and Liechhardt power plants to the 5 MIM feeders, as well as two other feeders, into the closest (MCPS B) switchyard.
