Apex Puts Gas-Fired Bethel Energy Plant in Texas on Hold

Construction on the power plant had been slated for kickoff in the last quarter of 2015, with completion in 2017, but the company will now wait until next summer or fall to determine a new kickoff date.

Using Dresser Rand Group (NYSE:DRC) (Houston) technology, the compressed-air energy-storage (CAES) power plant would take compressed air from an underground cavern. Other equipment include a Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) (Peoria, Illinois) emergency generator, mechanical draft cooling tower, and compressed-air heater.

Wood Group Mustang (Houston, Texas) is serving as the project engineer, while Zachry Holdings Incorporated (San Antonio, Texas) has the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract. Zachry will construct and purchase major equipment, such as the cooling tower, generator and circulation pumps.

Apex is also working with Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC (Dallas, Texas) on an interconnection agreement.
