Boise Cascade Expanding LVL Production at Louisiana Mill

Boise Cascade Corporation (NYSE:BCC)(Boise, Idaho) is moving forward with a $3-4 million expansion project at an engineered wood products (EWP) plant in Lena, Louisiana. The company is installing a new proprietary wood producing line that will increase the plant's annual production capacity of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) by 4 million cubic feet and boost the plant's total output to 21 million cubic feet.

Modifications to the existing building are currently underway in preparation for delivery of the new line later this year. Corvallis Tool Company (Philomath, Oregon) will manufacture and install the new line. Boise anticipates completion of the project by early 2006.

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is a layered composite of wood veneers and adhesive. It is a solid, highly predictable, uniform lumber product because natural defects such as knots, slope of grain and splits have been dispersed throughout the material or have been removed altogether. LVL is used primarily as structural framing for residential and commercial construction and is well-suited for applications where open web steel joists and light steel beams might be considered.

In addition to Lena, Boise's operations in Louisiana include a pulp and paper mill in Deridder, and plywood mills in Florien and Oakdale.
