Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the arrival of the construction team to the site on December 1, the first concrete placement for the main powerhouse of Unit 4 for the Huadian Liu'an Power Plant Phase II expansion was carried out by Anhui Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Company Limited (AEPC1) (Hefei, Anhui), the main contractor of the project, on December 10.

Huadian Liu'an Power Plant is located in the Yu'an Economic Development Zone of Liu'an City in Central China's Anhui province. The power plant is now owned and operated by Huadian Liu'an Power Generation Company Limited (Liu'an, Anhui), a subsidiary of Huadian International Power Company Limited (Beijing). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 347 megawatts (MW), including two 135-MW units in Phase I, two 600-MW units in Phase II, and two 1,000-MW units in Phase III. The two 135-MW units of Phase I were commissioned in December 2005 and June 2006, respectively. For the two 600-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units planned in Phase II, the first unit received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in July 2009. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held in August 2009. However, the second 600-MW unit, namely Unit 4, still needs final approval from the NDRC.

Presently, the project owner is working closely with project designer Northwest Electric Power Design Institute, AEPC1 and other contractors for the construction of the project, as well as the final approval for Unit 4. According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operation in the first half of 2013. Upon completion, the project will be the largest industrial investment project in Liu'an.
