Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The College of New Jersey (TJNJ) (Ewing, New Jersey) is investing in the engineers, scientists and mathematicians of tomorrow to the tune of $94 million. Falling under the umbrella term of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), a new project will increase TJNJ's science-related space by more than 50%.
The project will add more than 100,000 square feet of laboratory space, and includes the addition of a new building and the expansion of another. The new 88,000-square-foot STEM building will be the core of the new complex, rising on the former location of the school's Holman Hall Humanities Building. Demolished last year, much of Holman's building material was salvaged and will be recycled for use in the STEM project.
The STEM building lab space will include a robotics laboratory, mechanical engineering design studio, biomedical engineering Biosafety Level-2 research suite, along with a high-performance computing cluster. The 22,000-square-foot Chemistry addition will house two organic chemistry labs and a "multidisciplinary super laboratory suite" that can be used for computation or experimentation.
The facility is designed by EYP Architecture and Engineering (New York, New York), and Dobco Group (Wayne, New Jersey) is the general contractor. The schedule calls for construction to be completed by late summer 2017.
