Dynea Focuses on the East Coast for New Formaldehyde Capacity, Re-evaluates Plans in Alberta

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Dynea (Portland, Oregon) has approved plans to begin an approximately $7 million expansion of their formaldehyde and resins plant located in Moncure, North Carolina. Industrialinfo.com originally reported this project in May of last year not long before Dynea purchased a former Canola Oil plant located on nearly 50-acres in Sexsmith, Alberta.

Dynea had planned to begin renovations of the newly acquired site in Sexsmith this summer and have new capacity available from that plant in early 2004. Recent delays of some regional paperboard projects have persuaded Dynea to re-evaluate this schedule and instead focus on existing operations such as the Moncure site for immediate capacity increases.

Some equipment has already been ordered for the Moncure plant expansion and construction is expected to begin in full force this spring. New kettles and other major equipment will be installed with the expectation of having the increased capacity online by early next year or even this fall if project schedules allow.
