Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois) is ready to add another 120 megawatts (MW) to its Perryman Peaking Power Station in Perryman, Maryland, by next summer.
The Perryman facility, located in Hartford County, operates only in peaking mode. Peaking plants only run when there is a high demand for electricity. The site, which became operational in 1972, includes four 53-MW Siemens combustion turbine generators and a 159-MW General Electric combustion turbine generator. The 120-MW Unit 6 addition is a dual-fuel, natural gas and low-sulfur diesel Pratt & Whitney FT4000 SWIFTPAC combustion turbine.
PW Power Systems (Glastonbury, Connecticut) will be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, with Bates Engineers & Constructors (Bainbridge, Georgia) the general contractor and Energy Services Incorporated (Farmington, Connecticut) providing engineering services.
Construction is scheduled to start this summer, with completion expected in the spring of 2015.
