Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 6 at Exelon Corporation's (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois) natural gas-fired Perryman Generating Station in Maryland began commercial operations on Sunday, June 28.

The 120-megawatt (MW) Unit 6 is a dual-fuel, natural gas and low-sulfur diesel FT4000 SWIFTPAC combustion turbine from Pratt & Whitney (East Hartford, Connecticut). The unit will run mainly on natural gas, but will be able to run on oil as a back-up.

The Perryman facility, located in Harford County, operates only in peaking mode. (Peaking plants only run when there is a high demand for electricity.) The plant includes four 53-MW Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) combustion turbine generators and a 159-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) combustion turbine generator.

The project, which had a total investment value of $120 million, created more than 100 jobs during construction.
